As we head out onto the holiday break, I am reminded by how inspiring leisure can be. One of the more influential books I read in high school, was Jame’s Watson’s chronicle of the discovery of DNA in his book The Double Helix. The book is not an account of Manhattan Project style intensity, but rather one of two grad [...]
I’ve only bought a few virtual goods: some gifts on Facebook. My lack of personal usage almost makes me more excited about the space because I know that I’m not clouded by my own personal hobby interest. Zynga and World of Warcraft shows me that enough people do use virtual goods, and I can conceive of several scenarios under which I [...]
Image via Wikipedia This morning around 745am, the express trains (4,5) on the green line got shut down because one person got sick on the train. I was standing on the express platform, and they told everybody to do upstairs. They put all the express trains onto the local track. This doubled the trains on the local track, and the [...]
Great article from Alleyinsider about the new space and our first group of residents!
Thanks to our teammate Bill Piel’s swift work and Sam’s urging, we started pulling Gowalla data about 24 hours ago. Its inclusion is reflected at the top of SocialGreat.com right next to our other feeds: Twitter hashtag, Brightkite, Foursquare, and GraffitiGeo. In that 24 hour period, 12/14 7pm to 12/15 7pm, the the total Gowalla stream that we saw encompassed 14,838 checkins. [...]

Our new entertainment and engagement is Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, Dailybooth, Gowalla, Blippy, etc. They engage varying people at varying levels for varying amounts of time. Distribution also plays a role, and [...]
Image via Wikipedia I’d like to learn more about lifestyle online businesses. Whether a business is a lifestyle or venture backable one always comes up in conversation, but it occurs to me that I only know a handful of these types of businesses. The most well known one I’m aware of is Plenty of Fish, which I remember reading an [...]
I’m leading a roundtable lunch tomorrow on Hackable Business Development. I’m going to try to try and eat my own dogfood by addressing the everything is too long problem. I’m going to try to keep my slides to 5-7 minutes. I’m going to try and be very concise and let the group discuss what they find interesting. Here are the [...]
I could not be more thrilled about the launch of DogPatch Labs New York. We should up and running in a couple weeks, and I can’t wait to be part of the organization of events, hackathons, etc. Dan Frommer has some additional details in his post, and I’m posting the press release below. Definitely ping me with questions, thoughts, and [...]
