Last night, we hosted the New York Open Angel Forum. A great group of VCs and angels attended to eat burgers and hear the pitches of six up and coming NY startups.
The companies that presented were:
- HDCloud – Cloud-based video transcoding
- Food52 – A food content and community site from food writers at the NY Times
- Upnext – A 3D mapping application for iphone and ipad
- Mynines – A private shopping site aggregator
- Kodingen – Cloud-based coding and other collaboration
- Aristotle’s Circle – A Gerson Lehrman for admissions

My huge thanks to Jason, Tyler, Charlie and Brian for organizing such a wonderful evening and giving us the opportunity to host. The startups were all excellent, and the evening also involved the first pitch I’ve seen involving an iPad demo thanks to Upnext. I think OAF is part of the effort to bring the kind of events and evenings to New York that we need to continue to foster community. I often say that in New York, you can attend tech events, as many nights a week that you want. Most of which are open and free. For those of us with kids at home it’s a balancing act, but the evenings are very much the focal point of idea exchange, investment, and learning. Kudos to OAF, and we look forward to continuing to being involved.
